Alok Nayak is the CEO and Artistic Director of Milap, the UK’s leading Indian arts and
culture organisation. A Liverpool native and seasoned cultural leader, Alok brings over
20 years of experience in artistic programming, strategic development, and nurturing
talent within the Indian arts ecosystem.
Under his leadership, Milap has grown into a nationally celebrated institution known
for its commitment to artistic excellence, education, and innovation, while nurturing
long-term partnerships with artists across the diaspora and India. Alok has played a
key role in establishing transformative initiatives such as SAMYO and TARANG, the
UK’s national youth ensembles for Indian music, which have become vital platforms
for the next generation of musicians.
MilapSpace is a natural extension of this vision — a digital platform that extends
Milap’s mission into new forms and new geographies. It brings together practitioners,
teachers, and learners from around the world, while remaining deeply connected to
the traditions, pedagogies, and artistic excellence of India.
Currently completing a PhD on new identity in Indian music in Britain, Alok continues
to contribute to the field as a researcher and speaker on the subjects of Indian music,
cultural leadership, and creative industry development.
